Blake Sherwin, Department of Mathematics and Theoretical Physics / Kavli Institute for Cosmology, University of Cambridge. Abstract: By studying the cosmic microwave background (CMB), we can look back in time and reveal the fiery early Universe when it was only 0.003% of its present age. In this talk, I will discuss how, by studying the CMB, we can find out about the origin, composition, and ultimate fate of our Universe. I will also explain some of the current research in this field, such as our search for primordial gravitational waves that would give us new insights into what happened in the very beginning.
